Say you are walking in the woods past a hollow in a tree. Have you ever stuck your head inside to hear what it sounds like? I have, several times.

This 45 minute album (available upon purchase) aims to capture the spirit of this strange obsession (hopefully not witnessed by strangers), by listening in a new way. I used contact microphones to get under the bark so to speak of seven different dead trees, snags are they are referred to in forest ecology, to bring out sounds unheard with the naked ear.

As a bonus you'll also hear the fleeting sound of woodpeckers hammering away at utility poles. Electricity courses through the poles, sending a 60-cycle hum picked up unexpectedly by the microphones. The birds are pretty cool to hear too.
